LOCAL TIP

Best 6 Road Trips

From Denver, CO

Colorful Colorado got its name for a reason. No matter what season, you see something extraordinary throughout the entire state. From the snow-capped Rockies to the plains in the east and beyond, it's all within your reach from Denver. Even if you don't own a car, that's where Kyte comes in. We'll help you explore the beautiful state of Colorado with some of our favorite trips out of Denver.

1. Boulder

Travel time: 30 miles (40 minutes)

The most iconic thing about Boulder is the Flatirons, the slanting sandstone that forms the city's backdrop. They're visible from almost anywhere in the city and are awe-inspiring. You can simply gaze upon them or take one of the many trails leading to them for a beautiful hike. The city is full of access to fantastic hiking such as the Mount Sanitas Trail, Eldorado Canyon, and Flagstaff Mountain. Once you get back into town, head to Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. Pearl Street Mall is a four-block long pedestrian mall with a collection of shops and dining and is sure to cater to anyone's tastes

2. Colorado Springs

Travel time: 71 miles (1 hour 15 minutes)

South of Denver on I-25, Colorado Springs is another iconic town on the edge of the Rockies. Like Boulder has the Flatirons, Colorado Springs has the Garden of the Gods. These natural rock formations appear to erupt from the ground, offering a fantastic backdrop for hiking and rock climbing. The city acquired Red Rock Canyon in 2003, which features miles of open space to wander. Check out the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, which is not only host to a world-class collection of over 800 exotic animals, but features beautiful views of the Garden of the Gods and Colorado City!

3. Aspen

Travel time: 159 miles (3 hours 45 minutes)

Aspen is the first of the mountain towns on this list, a world-famous destination for skiers and snow enthusiasts. The mountains are world-class, and visitors will find nature galore out here any season of the year. Check out Maroon Lake and the Maroon Bells (mountains) for some natural beauty, or honestly, any other multitudes of trails. If you're a John Denver fan, check out the John Denver Sanctuary with huge stones that feature his lyrics printed on them.

4. Breckenridge

Travel time: 81 miles (1 hour 50 minutes)

The second mountain town on the list, and it's known as the more "laid-back" option between Aspen and Breckenridge. Skiing is top-rated here, but you'll also find many trails in the vicinity for any other season of the year.

Head over to the Country Boy Mine, which offers tours of an authentic gold mine, panning for gold, and hanging out with the local burros. When you're back in town, check out historic Main Street, where you'll find shops, bars, and restaurants to visit.

5. Grand Junction

Travel time: 243 miles (4 hours 5 minutes)

Take I-70 all the way west across the Rockies and near Utah, and you'll end up in Grand Junction. The #1 attraction is the Colorado National Monument, with its awe-inspiring sandstone pillars and windswept canyons. If you are an early riser, arrive before sunrise to see the mesa truly come alive!

If relaxation is on the agenda, consider visiting Two Rivers Winery at sunset with the Colorado National Monument glowing in the background. If you can't get enough of the sweeping vistas, you'll find even more beauty at Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-topped mountain.

6. Santa Fe, New Mexico

Travel time: 392 miles (5 hours 45 minutes)

The only non-Colorado location on this list, Santa Fe, is New Mexico's capital. New Mexico is unique in its own right, so this paragraph only digs into the beginning. If you're a fan of art, check out the Georgia O'Keefe museum, the Museum of International Folk Art, Canyon Road, or Meow Wolf Santa Fe. Check out the Santa Fe Plaza in downtown Santa Fe, which is known as the heart and soul of the city.
