LOCAL TIP

Best 6 Road Trips

From Seattle, WA

Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest and comprises the 15th largest metro area in the United States. The birthplace of Jimi Hendrix, grunge music, and a massive software, biotechnology, and Internet hub, Seattle has a lot going on within the city. But with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, you want to get out there and explore what Washington (and other locations nearby) can offer. Beauty and adventure await you - let us showcase six places you can take your Kyte!

1. Tacoma

Travel time: 33 miles (40 minutes)

Located a short drive south of Seattle, Tacoma is a bustling city. Point Defiance Park has over 700 acres of trails, waterfront views, and gardens to stroll. You have a stunning view of Mt. Rainier from this park. You even have beach access at Owen Beach. The Museum of Glass is worth visiting if you're a fan of contemporary art. Its stylistic displays are all housed underneath a unique cone-shaped exterior.

2. Olympia

Travel time: 60 miles (1 hour 10 minutes)

Olympia is the capital of Washington state, so naturally, one of the coolest things to do would be to check out the Washington State Capitol, which has immaculate grounds and a beautiful interior that you can access on a tour.

Make sure to head to the Farmers Market, where you can find fresh, locally grown food and other treats! Make time for the Hands On Children's Museum if you have kids. As the name suggests, it's a hands-on experience for kids where they can learn about art, nature, and science.

3. Port Angeles

Travel time: 33 miles (40 minutes)

For outdoors enthusiasts, Port Angeles is a haven of natural beauty and accessible nature. Marymere Falls is an experience in itself. Getting to the falls will take a mild hike, but it's worth it! Hoh Rain Forest is stunning and is part of Olympic National Park. You get a glimpse into the Pacific Northwest rainforest's ecology and all it offers.

If your passport is ready, ride on the Black Ball Ferry Line. It's a fully-stocked ferry with all the amenities that will take you to Victoria, B.C. in Canada.

4. La Push

Travel time: 151 miles (4 hours)

On the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula is La Push, which boasts a beautiful and idyllic outdoor scene. A must-do here is visiting the beaches, namely La Push Beach. The views from this rugged rocky beach will take your breath away. (There are places to get food and drink nearby!) If you're a fan of fishing, there are fishing charters that will take you out for some of the best fishing the Pacific Northwest can offer.

Besides all that we listed, visit Forks for some more amenities a short distance from Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest.

5. Mt. Rainier National Park

Travel time: 82 miles (2 hours 35 minutes)

Floating over the Seattle skyline and rising over two and a half miles into the sky, this larger-than-life mountain is 89 miles away, though you'd never be able to tell with how massive it is.

Explore the nearby trails and many year-round glaciers in the subalpine landscape at the foot of the mountain. Take the gondola up nearby Crystal Mountain to enjoy the aerial view of Mt. Rainier, and ski down on the world-class powdery passes.

For the truly adventurous, hike up to Camp Muir for incredible views of the Cascades. They say that Mount Rainier creates its own weather that can change at any moment, so be prepared!

6. Portland, Oregon

Travel time: 82 miles (2 hours 35 minutes)

Check out the iconic Portland Japanese Garden for a calm and tranquil naturescape across 8 element-themed gardens. Whether or not you are a book lover, Powell's City of Books lives up to its title - while you wander the endless stacks, you can catch one of the frequent books readings there. Pittock Mansion is an over 100-year-old mansion that was state of the art at the time. It's a great way to experience the city as it was a century ago.
